Graduate jobseekers flock to Manchester

06 Jun 2012

The UK’S biggest jobs fair will be organised by The University of Manchester next week as hundreds of graduates seek their first step on the career ladder.

Careers Fair

This annual Graduate Recruitment Fair on June 13 & 14 at the Armitage Centre in Fallowfield welcomes more exhibitors over the two days than any other in the UK, and is free to attend for any new or recent graduate from any university.

Representatives from 170 companies and several higher education institutions are participating, with different exhibitors on each day.  Graduates will get the opportunity to find out about permanent paid jobs (and a few voluntary positions) in a variety of sectors locally, nationally and internationally, as well as postgraduate study opportunities starting autumn 2012.

Exhibitors include recruiters such as Abercrombie and Fitch, Aldi Stores Ltd, ASDA, Baker Hughes, BASF, BetFred, Bloomberg, Bluesmith Information Systems, The Co-operative Group, Danone, Deloitte, EA Technology, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Google, Hilti, IBM, Living Room Letting Agency,  Majestic Wine Warehouses Ltd, Morson, Northern Power Grid, Raleigh International, RLC Engineering, Schlumberger, Teach First, Thales, University of Sheffield, The University of Manchester, Utopia Technology, Web Applications, and 150 more! A full list of exhibitors for each day and their vacancies is on the website: www.manchester.ac.uk/graduatefair . The Fair is an ideal chance for graduates to make a positive impression on several potential employers at once.

Jan Hewitt, Employer Liaison Manager at the University said: “We do advise graduates to dress smartly and bring copies of their CV. It's also a good idea to research companies and their vacancies beforehand - you will make a better impression if companies feel you have done your homework – you can check out the vacancies for each company on the list of exhibitors for each day on the Fair website.”

A team of professional careers consultants will be on hand to offer advice, and there are short, informative talks on interview techniques, CVs, application forms and succeeding at assessment centres.

The Fair runs from 10.30am to 4pm each day at the Armitage Centre in Fallowfield. Visit the Graduate Recruitment Fair website for further information and a full list of exhibitors, at www.manchester.ac.uk/graduatefair, or call 0161 275 2828.
