Manchester’s biggest student-led arts festival.

Estival

Join the Music Society in the final week of term for Estival, our annual music festival! A carnival of sights and sounds, there is no better way to celebrate the end of exams.

With ten concerts over four days, it's an action-packed programme of music making with daily lunchtime, beat-the-rush-hour and evening performances, all guaranteed to thrill.

Tuesday 5 June 2012 (7.30pm)
MUMS (Manchester University Music Society) presents Estival (5 – 8 June 2012)
Estival Day One – Ad Solem Chamber Choir

Venue: The Catholic Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Oxford Road
Admission Price:  £10/ £6 concessions / £4 students/ Free to MUMS members. Please note, for this event tickets will be sold on the door at the Church of the Holy Name (not via the Martin Harris Centre box office)

Ad Solem, the University of Manchester Chamber Choir, will open Estival with an enchanting programme of choral music.

Estival Day Two – Wind and Brass Ensembles Lunchtime Concert

Venue: The Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, The Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama
Admission Price: FREE

Allow the Music Society to take you on a round-the-world trip through Spain, New York, Ireland and Greece in their first lunchtime concert of Estival 2012, with music from the Brass & Wind Chamber Ensembles.

Estival Day Two – Grade One Orchestra

Venue: The John Thaw Studio Theatre, The Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama
Admission Price: £5 / £3 concessions / £2 students / Free to MUMS members

Back by popular demand following last year's runaway success, the Grade One Orchestra returns to surprise and astonish.

Back by popular demand following last year's runaway success, the Grade One Orchestra returns to surprise and astonish.

Estival Day Three – Opera Lunchtime Concert

Venue: The Cosmo Rodewald Hall, The Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama
Admission Price: FREE

Estival Day Three begins with soloist Stephanie Tress in Martijn Padding: Last Words for Cello, and following a widely acclaimed full-house premiere in November 2011, our very own Leo Geyer brings his chamber opera, Mermaid of Zennor, to the Martin Harris Centre.

Join us for a showcase of the Music Society's best singers in the second Rush Hour Concert of Estival 2012. Featuring Cosmo Singers and the Barbershop Chorus.

MUBB (Manchester University Big Band) returns to entertain us with more classic gems from the Big Band repertoire.

Estival Day Four – Brass Band Lunchtime Concert

The University of Manchester Brass Band kicks off the final day of Estival 2012 with a collection of landscape inspired pieces.

Estival Day Four – String and Chamber Orchestras

Join us for the final Beat the Rush Hour concert of Estival 2012! Soloist Jamie Phillips performs Hertel: Trumpet Concerto No.1, followed by Mendelssohn's ever popular Overture.

Estival Day Four – Symphony Orchestra Finale

Venue: The Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, The Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama

The finale of Estival 2012 is set to be a classic! The University of Manchester Symphony Orchestra performs Rachmaninov's mythological canvas in The Isle of the Dead, Elgar's amusing take of London in Cockaigne Overture and Bx's thoroughly English Tintagel.
