Release of SPSS 20 (statistical software)

25 Apr 2012

Users of earlier versions should update before the end of December.

IT Services are pleased announce that SPSS 20 is now available on the Electronic Software Delivery system (ESD) in anticipation of it being the standard version on the Student Desktop from September. This is to facilitate time for teaching staff to assess any lecture notes and test functionality, in time for the next academic year.  Further information about licensing, together with licence codes, can be found on the Applications Software Website.

If you are currently using an earlier version of SPSS, note that you will need to update to version 20 before end of December 2012 (due to licencing restrictions and/or withdrawal of specific versions by IBM). Managed staff desktop users should contact their local IT teams for advice on doing this.

Additionally, all access to SPSS 16 on managed machines will be automatically removed in September this year (SPSS 16 is no longer available to download from the ESD and SPSS 19 will cease to be available from September 2012).

It is worth noting that SPSS is now only licenced for academic staff and students. The licence allows use for teaching and research purposes both at work and at home. The full licencing terms can be reviewed online.

Administrative use is not allowed with the research and teaching licence. Any administrative staff who have a need to use SPSS will need to purchase an individual licence. Local IT teams will be able to advise on this.
