UMSS consultation results

A consultation results newsletter has been sent to all affected employes and is also on StaffNet.
The consultation exercise for proposals to change future benefits in UMSS closed on 6 January 2012. The University has considered all the feedback received from members and campus trade unions.

Contribution increase
All the original proposals are being introduced with effect from 1 April 2012; however there is one amendment to the increase in contributions. Concerns were raised by some employees and the trade unions about the impact on personal finances of the proposed increase in contributions to 7.5% of earnings. It has therefore been agreed to phase in the increase to contributions in the Final Salary section as follows:
- 1 April 2012 - contributions will increase to 7% of earnings
- 1 April 2013 - contributions will increase to 7.5% of earnings
