Graduate jobseekers flock to Manchester

07 Jun 2011

The UK’S biggest jobs fair will be organised by The University of Manchester on June 15 and 16 as hundreds of graduates seek their first step on the career ladder.

This annual Graduate Recruitment Fair at the Armitage Centre in Fallowfield welcomes more exhibitors over the two days than any other in the UK, and is free to attend for any new or recent graduate from any university.

Representatives from 160 companies and several higher education institutions are participating, with different exhibitors on each day.  Graduates will get the opportunity to find out about permanent and temporary jobs in a variety of sectors locally, nationally and internationally, as well as postgraduate study opportunities starting autumn 2011.

Exhibitors include recruiters such as Abercrombie and Fitch, Accenture, The Army, Aldi Stores Ltd, ASDA, Baker Hughes, Bloomberg, Cabair College of Air Training, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Deloitte, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Ernst & Young, Hewlett Packard, HSBC, IBM, Jaguar Land Rover, Kellogg, Lab Support, LateRooms.com, MMI Engineering, MultiLingualVacancies.com, , Rolls-Royce, Rota Engineering, Schlumberger, Shell, Teach First, University of Birmingham, The University of Manchester, Web Applications, Z+F UK, and 150 more!  A full list of exhibitors for each day and their vacancies is on the website: www.manchester.ac.uk/graduatefair.  The Fair is an ideal chance for graduates to make a positive impression on several potential employers at once.

Jan Hewitt, Employer Liaison Manager at the University said: “We do advise graduates to dress smartly and bring copies of their CV.  It's also a good idea to research companies and their vacancies beforehand - you will make a better impression if companies feel you have done your homework.  You can check out the vacancies for each company on the list of exhibitors for each day on the Fair website.”

A team of professional careers consultants will be on hand to offer advice, and there are short, informative talks on interview techniques, CVs, application forms and assessment centres.

The Fair runs from 10.30am to 4pm each day at the Armitage Centre in Fallowfield. Visit the Graduate Recruitment Fair website for further information and a full list of exhibitors, at www.manchester.ac.uk/graduatefair, or call 0161 275 2828.
