University to host powerful international event

The University of Manchester will host an international energy conference for businesses and scientists looking to develop sustainable power systems for the future.
Sponsored by the IEEE Power & Energy Society, the Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference 2011 will attract some of the world’s leading academics and industrialists.
The conference will look at the use of information and communication technology (ICT) to develop sustainable and environmentally-friendly electrical power systems of the future.
These systems will be based principally on green energy and renewable energy sources and electrification of transport.
The three-day event, at Manchester Central from December 5 to 7, is being hosted by The University of Manchester's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
It is hoped about 500 international delegates per day will attend, coming from Europe, the USA, the Middle East and Asia and bringing significant economic benefit to Manchester.
There will be significant emphasis on industrial applications and experience with smart grid concepts and technologies.
Currently, there are around 300 technical papers submitted, about 15 panel session organised by key international experts from around the world and a number of industrial companies taking part in exhibition.
The conference will be also addressed by current and past IEEE PES Presidents and several pre-eminent international authorities in the area of smart grids.
Professor Jovica Milanovic, who is organising the event with Professor Peter Crossley and Mike Kay of Electricity North West said: "The conference will be a forum for participants to discuss and exhibit state-of-the-art innovations in renewable energy generation and storage, electricity network automation, information and communication technology and electrical transport.
"It will attract some of the leading industrialists and academics working in these fields from around the world."
The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is internationally acclaimed as one of the leading schools in the world in the area of electrical power engineering.
