EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Account: Development of Licensable Technology Scheme

04 Jan 2011

Deadline for Expression of Interest (EOI) Form is Friday 21 January 2011 at 12noon

The EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Account (KTA) offers a comprehensive portfolio of flexible support mechanisms designed for EPSRC researchers to overcome barriers as they arise in all of the possible routes to exploitation and application of their EPSRC research base.

The University's KTA Operations Board and UMIP are pleased to announce the 1st call for proposals for funding under the Development of Licensable Technology Scheme. The Development of Licensable Technology Scheme supports development projects where there is protectable and commercially exploitable Intellectual Property, and funds activities such as the commissioning of market research, and the funding of staff to continue technology development to the stage at which a company is able to commit to their development into products/services.

Awards for the Development of Licensable Technology Scheme are expected to be between £50,000 and £70,000, depending on case.

The closing date for applications is Friday 21 January 2011 at 12pm (noon).

EOI forms will be assessed by UMIP, who manage the commercialisation of intellectual property on behalf of the University and operates the KTA Development of Licensable Technologies Scheme. Those satisfying the initial criteria will be invited to complete full applications and to present their proposals on a competitive basis to UMIP's Investment Committee. In this funding round, UMIP expect to fund a maximum of 6 projects to develop Licensable Technology.

Academics are eligible to apply for funding from the KTA if they hold a current or closed EPSRC grant, provided the proposed project will support the application or exploitation of their EPSRC-funded research.
