Upgrading the Managed Student Desktop

15 Sep 2010

New version available from 20 September

An upgraded managed student desktop will be available from 20 September.

A managed desktop is essentially the image (or software) that you see when logging on to a computer. The managed student desktop is the image on the computers in University PC clusters. If you use a student desktop, you may notice a different interface on some of the software packages that you use. These include EndNote and MATLAB.

Prior to the start of a new academic year, the software and applications on the student desktop are upgraded. The upgrade allows IT Services to introduce new applications that staff and students have requested. The upgrade ensures that as per the IT Strategy, IT Services is offering staff and students the most up-to-date technology. This also makes future upgrades easier for IT staff to implement.
