The Alderley Sandhills Project: New from Manchester University Press

15 Jun 2010

Book launch at The Manchester Museum on 24 June

A new book examining the archaeology of community life in (post-) industrial England is being launched at The Manchester Museum on 24 June.

A joint project between Manchester University Press and English Heritage, the book analyses the impact of industrialisation, de-industrialisation, and modern consumption on the material lives of workers in the North-West of England.  The title, illustrated throughout, is organised around a series of thematic chapters, and emphasises the social nature of household archaeology, drawing the reader from excavated objects into domestic spaces, historic events, and family memories.

Guests at the launch event will have the opportunity to meet the authors Eleanor Conlin Casella and Sarah K. Croucher, and learn more about The Alderley Sandhills Project. The book will also be available to purchase at a special discounted price.
