University hosts presentation by former Death Row prisoner

Free event open to staff and students

Former Death Row prisoner John Thompson will be visiting the University in October to give a presentation about his experiences.

“Life in the Balance - Wrongful Imprisonment, Death Row and Exoneration in the USA”, will see John speaking alongside Emily Maw, who is Director of the Innocence Project, New Orleans, which provides legal representation to wrongfully convicted life prisoners in the Deep South.

John spent 14 years on Death Row in Louisiana State Penitentiary in the USA before being re-tried in 2003 and acquitted.

The event takes place on Tuesday 13 October, starting at 6.30pm and ending at 8pm in Lecture Theatre A in University Place. 

The presentation is free but if you are interested in attending you would need to register and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
