Extension to property insurance

10 Aug 2009

Cover for items on loan or leased to the University

Items on loan or leased to the University, other than works of art and other collectables, are automatically covered under the University's Contents insurance, subject to a single item limit of £250,000.

The cover for loaned or leased items is the same as for University-owned contents, except that the excess is £5,000 per incident (University-owned contents are subject to an excess of £50,000 per incident).

All major risks are covered, but theft cover is limited to losses following violent or forcible entry.

Insurance can be arranged for items exceeding £250,000 in value on request to the Insurance Office.

Works of art and other collectables on loan to the University are automatically insured only if they are on loan to the John Rylands Library (and normally held in the Deansgate Building), the Manchester Museum, the Whitworth Art Gallery or the Tabley Collection. Insurance can be arranged for such items on loan to other parts of the University on request to the Insurance Office.
