Volunteers wanted for CSV/BBC Switchover Help Scheme

27 Jul 2009

Help the elderly and people on benefits with digital switchover

It’s less than 100 days to the start of digital TV switchover across the North West and the volunteering charity CSV needs community-spirited people to help make sure no-one is left behind.

Televisions in the Granada region will be switching to digital on 4 November 2009 and, if people haven’t taken action before, then their screens will go blank!

CSV is working with the BBC in the North West to help spread the word on the Switchover Help Scheme, which is being offered to people over 75 or on benefits.

They can’t do this without local community-minded people who like to chat and who have local knowledge of their area. They need you to volunteer and go out in to your community to let people know about the help which is available to them.

The areas which need covering are Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire. Volunteers of all levels and ages are needed, who are willing to hand out leaflets, talk at community centres, volunteer in CSV offices or just help a neighbour in need.

CSV will provide you with all the training you need and go through all the promotional material with you. You don’t need to be technically minded, just friendly, willing and able to talk to people where you live.
