HEaTED Survey 2009

24 Jun 2009

National survey of HE technical staff online until 17 July

HEaTED (Higher Education and Technicians Education and Development) is a UK-wide project all about the training and development needs of technicians and technical specialists working within Higher Education.

At the project core was a UK-wide online survey, completed by technical staff and managers in 2006, which sought information on training needs and other associated development issues.

The survey was well received by technical staff across the UK and has already lead to some tangible and positive changes such as:

  • a national training programme
  • a successful national technical staff conference
  • an online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme
  • professional recognition from the Institute of Science and Technology
  • a technical specialists mail base
  • a national voice for technical specialists

To assess the impact of the above changes, and how the sector is doing three years on, a second national survey has been launched. The HEaTED web survey 2009 will remain open until Friday 17 July at 12pm and can be accessed at:

The survey is anonymous and takes around 20 minutes to complete. All technical managers and staff are strongly encouraged to complete the survey to influence the future direction of staff development for technical specialists both nationally and locally.
