New Student PC Cluster ‘Look and Feel’ image for 2009/10

Office 2007 hits the clusters!
Testers are invited to preview the new Student Desktop for 2009/10. It will be available from 8 June 2009 and can be found on specific machines in the following locations:
- Owens Park
- John Rylands University Library
- University Place
- Barnes Wallis Building
- Joule Library
These machines will be clearly identifiable as the entire login screen will be white stating that it is running the 'Look and Feel' image. There will also be signs indicating their location in each cluster.
The updated applications available will include Office 2007 (minus Outlook), IE7 and McAFee 8.7. Note that further application updates will be added in due course as per the list that can be found at:

The remaining core (site licensed) applications should be completed by 30 June 2009. Faculty software application updates will be completed during the summer, for particular queries contact the IT Service Desk at:

Office 2003 will remain installed but will no longer be the default editor. Office 2007 has been forced to save in 2003 format in order to maintain compatibility with users that do not run the Office 2007 compatibility kit on their Office 2003 installations.
