Imaging Facility Launch

04 Jun 2009

Open to visitors on afternoon of 8 June

The Henry Moseley X-ray Imaging Facility sited in the Materials Science Centre will be formally opened by the President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alan Gilbert, on Monday 8 June 2009.

The opening ceremony is by invitation only, but interested staff are welcome to look round the Facility in the afternoon from 1.30 to 3.30pm.

The facility consists of a suite of five state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) instruments and has been commissioned with support from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the North West Development Agency and The University of Manchester.

It is open to all and will provide academic and industrial researchers with access to unique, world-class facilities for CT from the millimetre to nanometer lengthscales. The imagers are supported by a suite of powerful workstations for the offline reconstruction and visualisation of data and other support facilities include a sample preparation area, visitor office accommodation and an amenity area.
