Welcome to The Manchester Museum's ebulletin for families. Throughout May we have an exciting programme of events to celebrate the opening of our Manchester Gallery.

The Manchester Museum is open daily:

  • Tuesday-Saturday: 10am-5pm
  • Sunday, Monday and Bank Holidays: 11am-4pm

Big Saturday: Manchester Gallery
Saturday 9 May, 11am - 4pm

Explore the themes in our new Manchester Gallery through a variety of fun family friendly activities. Join members of The Manchester Museum's Youth Board for object handling sessions and tours of the Manchester Gallery.

  • Join in craft activities and make your own Manchester Museum or Belle Vue Zoo to take home.
  • Follow a behind-the-scenes tour and find out about the Manchester Moth, or listen to a poetry recital by young people about Manchester with the Race Relations Archive.
  • Meet local experts from Gorton Local History Society.
  • Watch a selection of animated films and shorts with colouring, object handling and craft activities.

Young Archaeologists' Club
Treasure hunter?
Friday 15 May, 11am-4pm

Bring in your archaeological finds for the Portable Antiquities Scheme’s Finds Liaison Officer, Frances McIntosh. Frances will help identify and record archaeological objects found in England and Wales which date from before 1700.

Young Archaeologists' Club
Saturday 16 May, 1-3pm

Charges apply to cover costs and may vary according to the activity.

Are you a budding archaeologist aged 8-16 who wants to dig up the past? If so, why not become involved in Manchester’s archaeology by joining our new branch of the Young Archaeologists Club and meet up once a month.
