What's on in February.

Welcome to The Manchester Museum's ebulletin for families. We launch 2009 with an exciting programme of events linked to Charles Darwin and Lindow Man. Come and join our 200 birthday celebrations for Darwin and keep an eye out for more exciting events linked to our Darwin festival across the year. If you're looking for something to do during half-term, why not come and explore Lindow Man's world. Discover more about the place he was found and what he means to us today.

Darwin's Big Birthday Bash
Saturday 14 February 11am-4pm

Celebrate Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday and take part in this special fun-packed activity day. Find out who Darwin was and what his theory of evolution was all about.

There will be lots of activities to take part in throughout the day, including live performances from Darwin and his Dodo, talks on birds and plants, live South American piñata and music, a recreation of Darwin’s famous ‘worm charming’ experiment on the bassoon and puppet storytelling. There will be craft sessions to make Darwin a giant birthday card and giant tortoise, live science experiments and lots, lots more.

Museum and University experts will be on hand throughout the day to talk about their work on a wide range of subjects from carnivorous plants to dinosaurs and frogs. There will also be opportunities to get up close to specimens that Darwin collected during his famous voyage on the ‘Beagle’.

This event is a taster for the Museum’s ‘Darwin Festival’ which starts in August 2009. To find out more visit:

Lindow Man Mania: Half-term holiday activities
Monday 16 - Friday 20 February 2009

Come along for a week of Lindow Man-related actvities. Join in a variety of activities taking place on each day including:
