Mission accomplished: a cause for pride.

10 Feb 2009

New lease of life for children's charity.

On Friday 30 January, the Wood Street Mission re-opened after a refurbishment which will enable it to continue its work of supporting local families and children in need for decades to come.

On the same day, the Manchester Evening News published an article on the proud history of the Mission, which can be read online at:

Here at The University of Manchester, we have a long tradition of providing support for the Mission. Many members of staff donate clothes, toys, Easter eggs and cash throughout the year. In particular, we run a Wood Street Lottery Scheme which members of staff can join for as little as £2 a month for one share or a maximum of five shares for £10 a month.

The Lottery is drawn on the first Wednesday of each month and half the proceeds go to the Mission at the end of the year – the other half goes to the winner. This year we have managed to give the Mission a cheque for £3,101.85p accrued from last year’s Lottery donations.

If you would like to increase your shares or join the Lottery, you can obtain an electronic application form from:
