Meet Chinese women writers: Liu Hong and Xinran.

02 Oct 2008

On Saturday 18 October at the Confucius Institute.

The Confucius Institute at The University of Manchester would like to invite you to meet and talk to two of the best known Chinese women writers of fiction in English, Liu Hong and Xinran, as part of the Manchester Literature Festival on Saturday 18 October.

Liu Hong came to the UK in the 1980s and has published four books. Her short stories have been read on Radio 4. Her novels focus on the emotional upheavals of ordinary Chinese people over the past forty years. Her latest novel, Wives of the East Wind, is an epic tale of friendships, love and idealism betrayed.

Xinran is the author of the seminal book about Chinese women’s lives, The Good Women of China, the novel Miss Chopsticks and China Witness – a magnificent and groundbreaking work of oral history giving voices to a forgotten generation. She now lives in London.

The event takes places at John Thaw Studio, Martin Harris Centre (no 42 on campus map) at 3.30pm on Saturday 18 October.
