New PC desktop image for the coming academic year.

30 Jul 2008

'Look & feel' version available for testing from 4 August.

A 'look & feel` version of the new PC cluster image (Desktop08 Image) will be available for testing on a number of PCs in the following PC clusters from Monday 4 August 2008:

  1. University Place.
  2. John Rylands University Library, Blue 2 (2nd floor).
  3. The Joule Library, Sackville Street Building, F Floor. Note: access is via the main Joule Library entrance on E floor.

Machines running the new image will be clearly marked as running the 'Desktop 08 Look & Feel Image'.

These machines will enable staff to preview the new PC desktop image which will be used for the coming academic year. We urge IT support staff and academic staff who use the PC clusters for teaching and/or research purposes to test the application software of interest on the image at their earliest convenience.

School and faculty support units may wish to provide machines locally for testing purposes, in which case they will inform you in due course about local testing arrangements.

Members of staff who have tested software on the new image should send feedback, listing the software tested and any problems found to the following email address:

Please note that it is important for staff who have tested the image to send an email, even if no problems were found with the image, so that there is a record of which software has been tested and by whom.

The closing date for feedback is Friday 15 August 2008.
