Changes to University sign-in
17 Aug 2026
IT Services are making changes to the Microsoft Entra sign-in service and the University's Shibboleth sign-in page, in the afternoon of Wednesday 19 August.
Microsoft Entra is the sign-in service you use when entering your University email address and password to access Microsoft 365, Canvas, SEAtS and many other University services. Shibboleth is the sign-in page to access services including library e-resources, document store and IT Account Manager.
The changes will make the University sign-in experience easier to recognise and support ongoing improvements to the security of University accounts, as well as increase compliance with accessibility regulations.
What is changing?
- The Microsoft Entra sign-in page will be updated with University of Manchester branding, making it easier to recognise as the University’s official Entra sign-in page.
- The Shibboleth sign-in page will be redesigned to comply with accessibility standards, including a simplified layout and navigation, and clearer information.
The screens and steps you see when signing in may therefore look slightly different from those you are used to.
You do not need to take any action before the changes are introduced. However, we recommend reviewing the guidance, so you know what to expect:
Help and support
After the changes have been introduced, please contact the IT Support Centre if the sign-in process doesn’t match the published guidance, you receive an unexpected Duo request, or you experience problems signing in.
