Did you know that the University of Manchester is a proud University of Sanctuary?

As part of Refugee Week 2026, we’re inviting colleagues and students to join us for a special on-campus event to explore what it means to be a University of Sanctuary in practice and how you can get involved.

The session, chaired by Dr Julian Skyrme, will bring together a panel of speakers to share insight and lived experience, including:
- An academic working in Sanctuary research
- Colleagues from our cultural institutions - Manchester Museum and The Whitworth showcasing their work with local sanctuary communities
- Current students sharing their perspectives

The session will provide space to listen, learn, and discuss how we can continue building a university rooted in safety, solidarity and empowerment.

We’re also delighted to welcome local charities (We Belong, Manchester City of Sanctuary and Refugees at Home) to showcase their work and opportunities for collaboration with University of Manchester colleagues and students.
