Building Hope: Gifts with a difference.

12 Dec 2007

Give hope to a child or community in Ethiopia.

Veronique Rizzuto, who works in the Teaching and Learning Support Office, helped to form the charity 'Building Hope' in 2005. Veronique is the Founder, Trustee and Treasurer of the charity, which works to raise the standard of living in a poverty-stricken area of Dessie in Ethiopia. Veronique was voted Staff Volunteer of the Year in 2007.

With funds raised by the charity, a substantial library block has been built. The library has also been equipped with bookshelves and books, and tables and chairs. To further improve conditions for the school, Building Hope raised further funds during the year to build much needed latrines. In addition to the support provided to the school, Building Hope made a donation of £3,000 to the Ethiopian Local Association of Persons Affected by Leprosy to support the building of new homes for homeless families in Dessie. Building Hope plans to provide an increased level of funding and support to the local association to continue the housing development project.

Veronique and members of the charity have launched for Christmas their new leaflet 'Gifts with a difference'. You can buy a gift for your friend or loved ones which will give hope and a brighter future to a child or a community in Ethiopia, such as a school desk and a chair, a school bag or even a goat.
