Phase III testing of new cluster (CLIP 5) image

24 Jul 2007

Feedback invited from IT support staff/academic staff using PC clusters for teaching and/or research

Dear All

A beta version of the PC Cluster Image (CLIP 5) for the new academic year is available for testing on a number of PCs in the following three PC clusters:

  • Kilburn Building, Room G9, Ground Floor, off the main foyer
  • John Rylands University Library, Zone Blue 1, Cluster B
  • The Joule Library, Sackville Street Building, F Floor (Note: Access is via the main Joule Library entrance on E floor)

Machines running the new image are clearly marked as follows:

'CLIP 5 PHASE III TESTING PC'

I would urge IT support staff and academic staff who use the PC clusters for teaching and/or research purposes to test the application software of interest on the image at their earliest convenience.

Staff who have tested software on the image should send an email to the following address with the word 'CLIP' in the subject field

ITS-DIRSYS-DESKINFRA@listserv.manchester.ac.uk

listing the software tested and any problems found.

Please note that it is important for staff who have tested the image to send an email, even if no problems were found with the image, so that we have a record of which software has been tested and by whom.

A list of the 'core' applications software available on the image can be found at:

A list of browsers and plug-ins available on the image can be found at:

Kind regards

Ian.
