Extraordinary Senate Election 2022 – nominations deadline

15 Nov 2022

The nominations deadline for this extraordinary election is Monday, 21 November

University of Manchester

This extraordinary election is taking place to implement Senate’s decision to increase its membership to enable the addition of nine Heads of School to the formal membership of Senate.

The addition of Heads of School to the formal membership was recommended by the 2021 Governance Effectiveness Review (GER). Their addition as ex-officio members necessitates an increase in elected members to maintain the ratio of ex-officio to elected members. This increase of nine members (in addition to the nine Chairs of School Boards) will be facilitated via this election.

The standard, annual election to Senate, for vacancies which will arise at the end of the current academic year, will take place in early 2023.

We are using the mi-voice nominations platform, which allows candidates to work on their application, and, if necessary, save and come back to it at a later date, before submitting.

Nomination process

  • Candidates should check with their nominees if they are happy to support their applications, before adding their contact details to the form.
  • An email will then automatically be generated from the system to each nominator, asking them to confirm their support for the candidate.
  • The Governance Office will then receive notification once an application has been fully completed (including the biography), and both supporters have confirmed their support.

There is an option to add a photograph to your application, but this is not mandatory.

  • The closing date for submissions (which includes confirmation of support from both supporters) is Monday, 21 November at 12noon.

If you would like to discuss the nomination process or the work of the Senate, then please contact me at elections@manchester.ac.uk
