Upcoming rail industrial action: what you need to know

02 Nov 2022

Guidance for working arrangements and information on campus car parks access

We recognise that the upcoming rail industrial action on Monday, 7 and Wednesday, 9 November will leave some colleagues with limited options for travelling to work, as well as having an adverse effect on other forms of travel.

In order to help colleagues deal with the impact, we encourage managers and colleagues to discuss the most appropriate contingencies during this period and we have developed the following to help you in these discussions:

The guidance includes information on what to do if:

  • members of your team are unable to travel to work;
  • you have teaching commitments on those days;
  • what happens if someone is late because of the action;
  • what happens if childcare arrangements are affected.

Arrangements for on-campus parking

All colleagues will be able to park free of charge on Monday, 7 and Wednesday, 9 November at the following University car parks:

  • Booth Street West Multi-storey
  • Cecil Street
  • Charles Street Multi-storey
  • Dilworth Street
  • Dover Street

The barriers at Dilworth Street and Dover Street will be set to raise automatically on approach, so permit holders do not need to swipe their cards for access.

If you park at Cecil Street, Charles Street and Booth Street West

At Cecil Street, Charles Street and Booth Street West, we ask that staff members take a ticket on arrival and then visit the Attendants at the Lodge/Gatehouse/Cabin where they will be asked to show their ID card to get tickets validated. This can be done on arrival, it does not need to be done just before exiting.

If you are a permit holder at the Aquatics Centre car park

Free parking will also be available for permit holders only at the Aquatics, where the upper barriers will be set to raise automatically. Colleagues who do not normally park at the Aquatics car park will not be able to park at the Aquatics car park free of charge.

  • If you have any issues gaining access to the car parks, please use the intercom or call 0161 275 2990.
