Luci Cockayne picks up the ‘Residential Life New Professional’ award, after joining our University just last year

We are delighted that our PS colleague Luci Cockayne, Residential Life Events and Communications Coordinator, has won a national award to recognise her work to transform communciations and engagement with students, as part of our ResLife team.

Luci joined the team in March 2021, as we were beginning to emerge from the pandemic and reset our relationship with students. Since being appointed, Luci has overhauled the ResLife social media channels, which includes doubling the followership on Instagram and attracting over 4,000 members to the Hall Facebook groups.

She has also implemented a weekly newsletter which goes out to all residents and includes topical news such as careers, security, the International Society and our Students’ Union, to name a few. The newsletter has on occasion reached a high 90% open rate, further developing our engagement with students and acting as a trust-building activity, post-pandemic.

Based on these achievements, Luci was nominated by ResLife colleagues for the ‘Residential Life New Professional’ award, in partnership with CUBO (the College and University Business Officers member organisation) and ACUHO-I (the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International). The awards were presented at the CUBO 2021 Conference, held last week in Sheffield.

Along with receiving her award, Luci will also be attending the ACUHO-I 2023 Conference in the USA, as part of her prize.

Brendon Jones, Residential Life Manager says: “Congratulations Luci! We are so proud of you. It is a well-deserved win.

"You have truly transformed the way we communicate with our residents and are a massive asset to the Manchester ResLife Team.”
