Ness Award recognises our Chancellor's contributions to promoting insightful understandings of our place in the world through poetry and the spoken word

Lemn Sissay OBE

Our Chancellor, Lemn Sissay OBE, has been awarded the prestigious Ness Award by the Royal Geographical Society.

The poet, writer and broadcaster received the award in recognition of his ‘long-standing contributions to promoting insightful understandings of our place in the world by means of poetry and the spoken word’.

Lemn said: “I am honoured to receive this award. It serves as encouragement to us all, to keep going.”

The awards will be presented by the Society’s President, Nigel Clifford, at a celebration at the Society on 6 June.

This year, the Society’s medals and awards recognise 23 different people and organisations for their extraordinary achievements in geographical research, fieldwork, teaching, policy, and public engagement.
