Manchester Museum announces Little Greene partnership

19 Jan 2022

Manchester Museum has announced Little Greene as the official paint sponsor for its ambitious capital development project, hello future

Little Greene

The once-in-a-generation, £15 million project will see the Museum’s historic building transformed as it becomes more inclusive, imaginative and caring for the diverse communities it serves.

Little Greene will work collaboratively with Manchester Museum and designers, The Artistry House, in the creation of new visitor spaces including a Welcome Area, Shop, Café, Main Hall, Picnic Area and Belonging Gallery.

A new entrance from Oxford Road will lead visitors to the Welcome Area, where spectacular objects will inspire awe and wonder. The Main Hall will be a large, flexible space that can be used for events and hospitality. The new Museum Shop will sell beautiful and sustainable products inspired by the museum’s extraordinary collections. And the Belonging Gallery is a permanent new gallery that will explore themes of belonging and inclusion through comic art.

Little Greene, a specialist in the production of sustainable paint, has established partnerships with a number of heritage organisations including the Whitworth, National Trust and English Heritage.

Esme Ward, Manchester Museum Director, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Little Greene for being our official paint sponsor as we progress towards the opening of a transformed Manchester Museum. This project is about so much more than collections and objects – it’s about creating a warm and welcoming environment where everyone belongs, and design is integral to that."

Ruth Mottershead, Creative Director at Little Greene adds: “We’re delighted to be working with Manchester Museum to create a really engaging, vibrant space for visitors to enjoy. Manchester Museum is such an important landmark in our city and it is a real privilege to provide paint for this project."

Talking about the brief, Lynsey Thompson, Managing Director of The Artistry House said: "The Museum’s commitment to sustainable design was a key part of this brief, so Little Greene were our immediate choice. The combination of their Manchester roots and heritage colour palette, plus their commitment to protection of the world environment and eco-friendly paint, put them at the top of our wish list."
