Volunteers needed: Help the homeless with Mustard Tree

14 Dec 2021

Christmas is a season of giving, so there’s no better time to volunteer

Mustard Tree, Ancoats

Throughout December, homeless charity Mustard Tree are desperate for volunteers as their services become oversubscribed. Whether you’re free for one shift or several, help us deliver life changing assistance to Manchester's homeless community, from their headquarters in Ancoats in the run up to Christmas.

Volunteer opportunities:

  • Volunteer alongside the retail, warehouse, and logistics team to manage donations, sorting clothing, toys, games, and food, prepping them to be donated on to clients. It's like being a Christmas Elf without the mandatory uniform!
  • Support our Food Club and Community Shop. This will require some interaction with Mustard Tree's clients, helping them to choose food items from the pantry, as well as giving assistance to the public with shopping and picking out furniture.

Dates available:

  • Wednesday 15, Thursday 16, Friday 17, Monday 20, Tuesday 21, Wednesday 22, Thursday 23 and Friday 24 December.

Shift schedule

8:30am: arrive, sign in, morning briefing

9:00am: induction, tour, role assignments/hand outs and training

10:00am - 2:30pm: volunteering

2:30pm onwards: finish off, debrief, pub (optional!)

More information:

University students can also get involved in the efforts by signing up through Volunteer Hub. Any student volunteers taking this role up will be able to use these hours towards the Stellify Award.
