UCU ballot announcement

22 Sep 2021

Update from Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources

Karen Heaton

The University and College Union (UCU) has today announced that it will be balloting its members on industrial action. We are disappointed that after a seriously disrupted 18 months, UCU are once again balloting for industrial action. We make every effort to ensure that our University is a great place to work, and we have taken on significantly increased costs in recent years for both pay and pensions to help ensure this.

Negotiations are conducted at a national level so we are unable to make changes on our own, but we are supportive of the changes to the USS pension which are needed to keep it affordable for universities and our staff. This is part of a generous employment package for colleagues and ongoing engagement with staff to address the issues which the union has raised.

A statement in response to this news has been made by Universities UK.

We will keep you updated on developments in this ballot with results expected in November.

Karen Heaton,

Director of Human Resources
