Reminder - Short network interruptions: Sat 21 to Tue 24 August
19 Aug 2021
IT Services plan to perform some general network maintenance on Saturday 21, Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 August 2021, which will result in some short periods of interruption to Wi-Fi across campus, and all network access in some buildings.
An overview of the work:
- Saturday 21 August: Wi-Fi interruptions across campus, and localised interruptions to all network access in some University buildings
- Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 August: Localised interruptions to all network access in some University buildings.
Saturday 21 August
Between 8.30am and 10.30am, there will be four five-minute interruptions to Wi-Fi (eduroam, UoM_WiFi and UoM_Guest) across the entire campus, including halls.
Between 9.30am and 5pm, there will be a 15-minute loss of all network services (wired and Wi-Fi) in some buildings. Due to the nature of the work, it’s not possible to state at exactly which time during the one-hour window that the 15-minute interruptions will occur, but the team will aim to schedule the outage at the start of each window:

Any building not in the above table is only affected by the Wi-Fi work.
On Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 August:
On both days, the buildings shown in “locations affected” in the above table will experience a 5-10 minute loss of all network services (wired and Wi-Fi) between 6pm and 8pm.
Due to the nature of the work, it’s not possible to state at exactly which time during the two hour window that the interruptions will occur.
Central University services (for example, GlobalProtect VPN, Blackboard, Email, IT login) will not be affected, however if you are remotely connecting to a computer in one of the above locations, you will be disconnected while the work takes place.
IT colleagues will be monitoring services to ensure they automatically reconnect after the work has completed. Anyone with any issues after the work has completed on each day should telephone the IT Support Centre on 0161 306 5544.
