Chinese Gardens - Design and Symbolism

24 May 2021

Join Manchester Confucius Institute and catch glimpses of the beloved blossoms and flowers of China during this time of year.

Magnolia

Firstly, landscape architect Dr. Youcan Ren will hold an online talk on the symbolic meaning of Chinese flowers and traditional garden design. Hopefully you will be inspired to experiment in your own garden or to create a special and meaningful gift for someone.

Following on from the talk, and for the duration of the Manchester Flower Show (Sat, 29 May-Sun 6 June), the Confucius Institute team is sharing flower and garden displays directly from Beijing as a vibrant social media campaign.

You will be able to see colourful imagery and videos from places such as the Summer Palace and the Forbidden City whist discovering the meaning of Chinese flowers like the magnolia, wisteria or peony.
