National Student Survey 2021 is now open

09 Feb 2021

Our campaign to encourage students to complete the National Student Survey (NSS) 2021 launches this week

National Student Survey

The survey, which is open to the majority of final year undergraduates, is one of the most important ways we gather feedback from students about their experience of studying and living in Manchester.

All students who are eligible to take part in the NSS will receive an email from Ipsos MORI, who are running the survey on behalf of the Office for Students (OfS). However, students do not have to wait for the email as they can complete it anytime by visiting National Student Survey 2021.

The results are used internally to inform improvements to the student experience and externally to compile University league tables and inform future students' choice of university/course through the Discover Uni website

Promotion of NSS 2021

As well as communication from Ipsos MORI, there will be messages from Student Communications and Marketing to encourage students to complete the survey. This year, in recognition of the current additional pressures on colleagues, there is no requirement for Schools to promote the survey. However, if you do wish to promote the survey locally resources to help and information, advice and promotional materials can be found on the Student Experience Survey page on StaffNet.

Here, you will also find clear guidance about how to avoid inappropriate influence.

A key message for students this year is that we fully understand the pressure they are currently working under, but that we really do value their views and are grateful for their time.  More than ever we want them to understand how valuable their feedback is and how important it is for them to take this opportunity. We want to understand what has worked during the rapid changes made to their education, and what may not have worked so well. They really can help impact how our provision looks in the future.

University incentives

As in previous years, the University is offering two incentives to students completing the NSS:

A prize draw for Amazon vouchers - there will be ten prizes of £400 of Amazon vouchers. To encourage early completion, the prize draw will close at midnight on 31 March 2021. The winners will all be chosen at random by Ipsos MORI.

For each response submitted the University will also make a £1 donation to charity. This will be done automatically, and the amount will be split between the following four charities:

Information about these can be used if you choose to communicate information about the survey.

If you have any questions about our University’s surveys, please initially speak with your School survey contact or contact
