Our AskMe campaign 2020

16 Sep 2020

Get involved in this year's AskMe and Welcome campaigns, to help welcome our new students

AskMe 2020

Every September, staff from across our University show their commitment to helping new students settle into University life by becoming an AskMe ambassador and being open to any questions that may come their way.

We all have something to offer our students, and with a number of changes to teaching and learning this year it’s even more important than ever that we pull together to deliver the very best experience for the students joining us this year.

This year we unfortunately won’t be able to provide new staff with our popular AskMe badges as part of the Welcome campaign, but we ask those of you who have one to dust off your purple badges and get involved in any way you can. For many students this is one of the first interactions they will have with our University staff, so it’s important that we’re friendly and proactive in answering questions and finding solutions for anyone who approaches.

The most common questions we expect to be asked by our new students will be around navigating the campus, the events on offer during Welcome, and coronavirus-related safety questions. Links to more information to help answer these questions can be found below.

In previous years we have invited colleagues to sign up to an email newsletter, to share information with you over the course of Welcome. This year, in lieu of the newsletter, we’ve launched the AskMe Ambassadors Yammer Group for colleagues to post questions and help each other in real-time with student queries. We’ll also use this group to share updates that relate to Welcome, and intel and stats on trends in students' questions and concerns. Colleagues can also post questions to the Yammer group and get real time answers - from both the Welcome team and of course, from any wider colleagues participating in the Yammer group.

We all have something to offer our students, and they really remember the welcome that they receive when starting at the University, so we’d encourage as many colleagues get involved!

Volunteer at our on-campus Welcome events

Alongside the AskMe campaign, we of course have our planned series of on-campus Wecome events for our new and returning students, which are running from 21st September to 9th October. We are in need of a number of additional colleagues to help support the running of these events alongside our Event Managers, and also to help ensure the safety of students by managing queues to ensure social distancing and helping to direct students around the campus.

If you are interetsed in being an Event Staff Volunter, please complete this online form.
