Trade Union negotiating meeting update

15 Sep 2020

Message from Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources

Dear colleagues

After a short break during August due to annual leave commitments, our weekly negotiating meetings with the campus trade unions resumed this week.  These meetings focus on the proposed measures our University needs to take to ensure we deliver our core goals, given the threats to our financial sustainability which have been exacerbated by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week, discussions continued on proposed permanent changes to the Redeployment Policy and Pay Protection Policy.  We remain in negotiation on this issue and hope to reach a final position shortly.

The minutes from the negotiating meeting held on Monday, 3 August 2020 were agreed and these are available below. The next negotiating meeting will take place on Monday, 21 September 2020.

In the spirit of open and transparent communication, we are publishing the minutes from both our weekly negotiating meeting with the trade unions and a further weekly COVID-19 update meeting which takes place with the trade unions each Wednesday.

Minutes from Monday negotiating meetings:

Minutes from the COVID-19 update meetings held with the trade unions on Wednesdays.  This group has decided to meet fortnightly going forward:

Minutes are approved at the next available meeting, so there will be at least a one week delay between meetings taking place and the minutes being approved and published.

Best wishes

Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources
