Dealing with clearing and confirmation telephone calls

12 Aug 2020

Thursday, 13 August 2020 is A-level results day and as always, we’re expecting a very high volume of phone calls into the University

The central Confirmation, Clearing and Adjustment hotline will be in operation again this year, staffed by 98 colleagues from across the DSE, Faculties and a group of Student Ambassadors.

Hotline staff will be spread across the Student Services Centre and Rutherford Building with some colleagues also taking calls remotely, off campus.  The central hotline runs alongside activity taking place in Schools and Faculties and usually sees upwards of 10,000 calls over the clearing period; 6,000 of these alone being answered on the Thursday of results.

If you receive calls or enquiries from prospective students, please ask them to redial the following numbers:

  • 0161 672 8770 (clearing enquiries)
  • 0161 804 0050 (confirmation of their place)

The call centre hours are:

  • Thursday, 13 August (8am-5:30pm)
  • Friday, 14 August (8am-5pm)
  • Saturday, 15 August (9am-12noon)
  • Monday, 17 August (9am-5pm)

Clearing callers should also be directed to the clearing website, which shows up an up-to-date list of vacancies.

Each year the switchboard is inundated with calls over the clearing period, so please do not give this number to enquirers.
