Academic Tutors for Widening Participation Outreach Programme

16 Jan 2007

Members of teaching staff needed to support the entry of talented local youngsters into HE

The University is looking for members of teaching staff, including postgraduate students, from each of the four Faculties who would be interested in acting as Academic Tutors for sixth form students on the Manchester Access Programme (MAP). The Manchester Access Programme, now in its second year, is the University's flagship outreach/admissions programme that has been developed to facilitate the progression of talented young people across Greater Manchester from underrepresented backgrounds into The University of Manchester or, if appropriate, another research-intensive institution.

The time commitment is minimal and full support, guidance and recompense is provided. As an Academic Tutor you will be supporting students in the writing of an academic assignment that will form part of their portfolio of evidence, allowing students to demonstrate their potential to successfully complete a programme of study at this University. Interested staff should currently be involved in the teaching of undergraduate students. In particular we are keen to hear from colleagues who enjoy working with young people and will be able to offer encouragement and support on a one-to-one basis.
