Updated staff FAQs: PS re-grade applications, P&DRs

12 Jun 2020

Frequently asked questions are updated regularly

This advice is correct at the time of publication of this news article.

If you have health concerns then you should refer to the NHS website as recommended by Public Health England. For other queries regarding the current situation, email coronavirus-info@manchester.ac.uk.

We have updated the coronavirus staff FAQ, removing out-of-date and duplicate information. Hopefully it will now be easier to find what you need on this updated page.

New additions to the page in the contracts and recruitment section:

Will re-grade applications for PS staff members be progressed?

Applications received on or before 17 March 2020: These applications will now be progressed and you will be informed of the outcome. If your case is successful you will be notified by HR outlining your new job title and job description and the date these are effective from. Regrettably due to the financial pressures we are facing, any pay uplift associated with this re-grading will be put on hold for a year in the first instance. We will keep this situation under review and as our finances allow we hope to introduce pay uplifts associated with PS re-grades in 2020. Unfortunately given the University’s current financial position, pay uplifts associated with successful PS re-grading applications will not be backdated.

Applications received after 17 March 2020: These applications will not be progressed and new applications are not currently being accepted.

We are keeping our decisions on both staff recruitment and PS re-grading under review and will update colleagues as and when the situation changes.

My PS re-grade application was unsuccessful, can I appeal?

If your unsuccessful application was made on or before 17 March 2020, you can appeal the decision. Any meetings as part of this appeal process will have to take place online given the current circumstances. You can be supported in these meetings by a trade union representative or work colleague. New questions in the training and development section

New addition to the page in the training and development section:

Will I still be offered a P&DR if my manager is on furlough leave?

If your manager is on furlough leave they won’t be able to carry out your P&DR until they are back at work.
