Phased return to campus and new working arrangements

14 May 2020

A message from Nalin Thakker, Vice-President for Social Responsibility and Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research

Thursday updates

This is the first of what will be a weekly Thursday message to keep you informed about our phased return to campus and new working arrangements. It will include headlines and links to FAQs for more information where appropriate. It will also include headline updates on changes in government guidelines and associated developments in Greater Manchester for this is the framework in which our own plan develops and is adjusted as necessary.

The UK Government reduced the Covid-19 alert level to ‘4’ from ‘5’ (highest level) on Sunday, 10 May 2020. Under this lower Covid-19 alert status, some activity in addition to what was classified as essential work, will be permitted. For us, this means that we will be able to start some laboratory research but not make a complete return to normal working.

A lot of work is going on currently to prioritise which areas of activity can be restarted first and to make our premises safe and ready for limited occupation once we start. This is expected to take approximately two weeks but we will keep you updated regularly.
