Updated staff FAQs: Pay for key workers

The following new questions have been added to the staff FAQs:

Can I claim the £75 payment as I am a current key worker?

Any staff member who is classified as a category 1 key worker and is in grade 1-8 may be eligible to receive the £75 payment. If you believe that you are within this classification, then discuss with your manager in the first instance. Managers will be asked to submit the names of their staff who they believe should receive the payment.

How is the £75 payment made?

The payment will be made on a three monthly basis in arrears at your normal pay date. The first payment will be made within the June 2020 payroll.

Is the £75 payment subject to tax, national insurance, and pension deductions?

The payment will be treated as a non-consolidated payment, therefore it will be subject to tax and national insurance in the normal way. However this payment will not be pensionable and therefore no pension deductions will be made from it.

Will the £75 payment be pro rata for staff who are not required to work a full five day week?

The payment will be pro rata. If you are eligible and only required to work one day in the week you will receive a £15 payment, two days you will receive £30 etc.

How will the payment be calculated if you work full time hours over 4 days/shifts per week?

If you work full time hours over less than 5 days, you will still be entitled to the full £75 payment for the week.

How long will the £75 payment scheme continue for?

The purpose of this scheme is to support the campus closure, so it will be regularly reviewed and will be withdrawn at a future date.
