COVID-19 financial implications for the University

05 May 2020

A message from the President and Vice-Chancellor

John Owens Building

Dear colleagues,

In previous messages we have indicated that COVID-19 is likely to have a significant adverse impact on our financial position, as it is doing on universities across the world. It is very likely that we will lose about 15% of our total income and we could lose 25% of that income if there is a very major reduction in students coming to study with us from outside the UK.

This paper aims to explain our main income streams and expenditure, clarify the assumptions behind our expected loss of income and lays out some ways that we might further mitigate those losses.
