Patrick Johnson appointed as Disabled Students' Commissioner

New Disabled Students' Commission set up by former Universities Minister Chris Skidmore
Our Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Patrick Johnson, is one of six people selected to act as commissioners.
The Disabled Students' Commission (DSC) is a new, independent and strategic group that will advise, inform and influence higher education providers to improve support for disabled students.
The group has been set up to provide the independent challenge that is needed to make change happen across the English higher education sector. It replaces the Disabled Students' Sector Leadership Group (DSSLG).
With the introduction of reformed access and participation plans and the broad range of higher education provision across the sector, there is a fresh impetus to draw on best practice and to encourage initiatives that are proven to work for disabled students before, during and after their studies.
Patrick said: “I am delighted to become a commissioner and I look forward to influencing and challenging the sector to ensure all disabled students are supported and given every opportunity to achieve their potential.”
Chief Executive of the Office for Students, Nicola Dandridge said: “We are pleased to have appointed such a strong and effective group of commissioners who will bring passion, expertise and experience to the commission and will challenge and support us to ensure the best possible outcomes for disabled students.”
