Director of Communications and Marketing, Sally Sykes is leaving the University in April.

Sally will be leaving us on Tuesday, 7 April and will resume her career as an independent interim and consultant in communications and marketing, as well as continue her work as a trustee and officer holder of two charities in health care (patient experience) and the communications profession.

Registrar, Secretary and Chief Operating Officer, Patrick Hackett said: “I am grateful to Sally for her leadership of communications and marketing in Professional Services, where her achievements include bringing focus to the team’s work on a number of high-profile projects like Our future, leading the team to deliver award-winning projects and achieving significant improvements in her team’s results in the 2019 Staff Survey. Sally has also successfully integrated Policy@Manchester into the mainstream of the University’s work.

“In addition she has fostered a much more collegiate way of working across Faculties and Schools, and chaired the pan-University Communications and Marketing Leadership Team very effectively.

“She steered the communications and reputational aspects of a number of challenges for us and the sector and is a respected colleague on the Professional Services Leadership Team.

“I am sure you will join me in wishing Sally every success for her future.”

Sally said: “It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to lead The University of Manchester’s communications and marketing team and community, and I am very proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

Claire Brown, currently Head of University Marketing, will become acting Director of Communications and Marketing on Wednesday, 8 April until we recruit to the permanent position.
