Last year we had nearly 3,000 University staff, students and alumni entering our Purple Wave events. Make sure you get involved in one of the opportunities this year!
The Great Manchester Run
The Great Manchester Run is the largest 10K in the UK consisting of around 25,000 participants each year. For the past four years, our University has hosted its very own Purple Wave. On Sunday, 24 May 2020, we will again be entering the country’s biggest higher education team, so come and run, walk or jog with us and be part of the #purplewave.
Discounted rates will be available for all students, staff and alumni who enter through us. The prices are below:
- Student 10k - £20
- Staff 10k - £30
- Alumni 10k - £35
- Half-Marathon - £41.40
These are hugely discounted from the Great Run prices (£39 for 10k and £46 for Half-Marathon).
Additionally, we encourage as many of our entrants as possible to raise money for our University’s Re-write Cancer campaign. Working in partnership with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Cancer Research UK, our University’s ambition is to save more lives and create a top five-cancer research facility – right in the heart of Manchester. We will be offering free Purple Wave registration for people who would like to fundraise for Re-write Cancer by taking part in the 10k run or half marathon. There will also be an opportunity for every entrant to make a donation of whatever they can afford to Re-write Cancer when they register for their chosen Purple Wave event.
Discounted places are limited, so once these are sold out we will revert to the standard entry price.
The Manchester Universities 2.5K & 5K Run
Last year, we had 790 purple runners and walkers in the first ever Universities 2.5k & 5k event which either provided a first opportunity to get running or a great platform towards the 10k in May.
Due to the success, we will be hosting another 2.5k & 5k Run on Wednesday, 18 March 2020.
The prices will be:
- 2.5k - £2 entry
- 5k - £3 entry
If you enter into the 2.5k or 5k event, as a thank you for signing up, we will give you a further discount to join the Purple Wave in the Great Manchester 10k. The link to enter using this discount will be in your confirmation email.
Please note that a backup date of 25 March 2020 has been pencilled in should the 18 March date be postponed due to poor weather conditions.
