On Monday, 3 February to Wednesday, 5 February, the Technical Apprenticeship Programme held an event with Manchester Young Lives in celebration of National Apprenticeship Week.

Manchester Young Lives mission is “to promote the social and educational inclusion of children and young people". They "believe everyone can improve their life chances through learning and make a successful transition to adult life given the right opportunities, support and guidance.” To support this the Technical Apprenticeship Programme took four of their young learners to learn about 3D printing, the Flight Simulator and the apprenticeships on offer here at the University.

The Technical Apprenticeship Programme management team held an event to promote what the programme is and how it might be shaped for the future of technical colleagues. With an amazing turnout and interest in the programme, the team are looking at expanding with the help of technical staff across the University. At the end of this event, an apprentice from the University delivered a presentation about a project she and her apprenticeship colleagues are working on to help raise the awareness of dementia.

Closing the events on Wednesday, the team gathered apprentices to travel around campus and distribute leaflets containing information about the programme, to any building/managers that currently do not have an apprentice/do not know about the apprenticeship programme. This was to internally promote the programme to those areas that may otherwise be unaware and meet first-hand the apprentices who find the programme so valuable.
