Has your department reduced its plastic use?

14 Feb 2020

If so, we'd like to hear about your plastic-free actions

Single-use plastics

Our University has committed to eliminating all avoidable single-use plastics by 2022. Focusing on catering, labs and stationery, this ambitious plan has already included a charge on takeaway cups in Food on Campus outlets, a switch to a completely plastic-free food delivery service and multiple stationery amnesties.

In addition, many of our water dispensers are now displayed on the Students’ Union web pages and several Food on Campus outlets have been uploaded to the Refill app, to help staff and students fill their reusable water bottles.

In order to understand the progress made across our University, we are encouraging staff to let us know what your department or school is doing to reduce its plastics use. This could include handing out reusable water bottles to staff or students, or changing your suppliers to avoid excess plastic packaging.

Maybe you’ve stopped using plastic cups in your water dispensers or removed plastic packaging from your publications - we’d like to hear about any actions you’ve taken to reduce your plastic use.

Please email es@manchester.ac.uk so that we can share your stories and celebrate your successes.
