University Retains HR Excellence in Research Award

10 Feb 2020

Review panel notes a good deal of work has been done over the last eight years and that the University is continuing to strive for further improvement

The University of Manchester

Our University has kept its European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award following an external review of how the University supports the professional and career development of its research staff.

We have now held the award for eight years, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to supporting researchers and our implementation of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.

The HR Excellence in Research Award was confirmed following a rigorous external review process, which required the University to submit evidence of how the principles of the Concordat have been met and to outline the strategy and action plan for continued improvement over the next two years.

The review panel noted that “a good deal of work has been done over the last eight years” and that “the University is continuing to strive for further improvement and better support of research staff exemplifying a commitment to the principles of the Concordat.”

Professor Melissa Westwood, Associate Vice President Research and Chair of the Research Staff Strategy Group, said: “I am delighted that our activities to create a supportive environment in which researchers are able to work and develop their careers has been recognised. I look forward to working with research staff and the Research Staff Strategy Group to ensure that the significant contribution made by our research staff to our goals and strategy is recognised and valued.”
