Industrial action by University and College Union (UCU) members

John Owens building

Dear colleagues,

The University trusts all employees to have informed their line manager that they have taken strike action immediately after they have returned to work following each period of strike action. In such circumstances, the University is entitled to withhold pay and it has been decided to deduct pay at 1/365th of annual salary for each day of strike action taken.

All staff who have declared themselves as being on strike will have their pay deducted in accordance with the timetable below:

  • November and December Strike Days (weeks 1 and 2)
  • Week one: 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 November (five days)
  • Week two: 2, 3 and 4 December (three days)

In the above periods, deductions from pay for each of the declared days of action will be made as follows;

  • end of month payroll – January pay
  • mid-month payroll – January pay

Human Resources will not be able to respond to individual requests for details of the actual deductions to be made; however, payslips will be available in accordance with normal timescales each month via MyView.

Please note that where any late notifications of strike action are received, then the above deduction periods may vary and employees will then have their pay deductions made in the next practicable payroll.

Karen Heaton

Director of Human Resources
