Our University listed in Top 20 Vegan Universities

02 Oct 2019

PETA has released a list of the top 20 vegan-friendly UK universities to celebrate the institutions that best support customers looking for compassionate, eco-friendly food options

Vegan friendly

The animal rights group PETA has selected 20 universities based on the availability of plant-based food options on campus and their initiatives to promote vegan eating. And our University earned a spot on the list, with a dedicated vegetarian café The Greenhouse, serving up a selection a freshly made salads, soups and stews and cakes alongside a collection of sandwiches.

In addition vegan options are available in all FoodOnCampus outlets including Veggie Place in University Place on Oxford Road.

Taste Manchester, the University’s delivered catering facility, has also seen an increase in vegan catering requests, delivering both hot and cold buffet options which are entirely vegan.

The Food In Residence Team offer daily vegan options and have ‘meat free Mondays’ in catered halls.

Finally the award-winning ‘The Market’ at University Place has great vegan options from a number of local street traders including I am Thai, In the Dog Haus, Seitan Kebabs, The Veggie Deli, Leafy Creams Bakery, Mama Tan Malaysian Cuisine, Vnam and Nibble.

“Students in the UK are going vegan in huge numbers, and it’s great to see universities joining the revolution,” says PETA Director Elisa Allen.

Alison Shedlock Head of Hospitality and Events added “We’re thrilled to be amongst the top 20 Universities in the UK for our vegan offering.   Our team across campus are passionate about providing great quality, sustainable food to staff, students and visitors to campus.  Alongside dedicated vegetarian outlets, we’re committed to offering vegan options in all of our cafes, halls of residence and delivered catering."
